Insider Tips

• Bring binoculars. Whales, eagles and bears are often spotted from the ship.
• On glacier days, head out on deck early and dress in warm layers. It gets cold near the ice.
• A verandah stateroom gives you your own private viewing spot for the scenery.
• Summer days in Alaska are long, so you'll have daylight well into the evening.
• Popular excursions fill up fast. Book early.

Flights

Getting to Vancouver

Fly into Vancouver International Airport (YVR). There are direct flights from Toronto Pearson, and connecting options from Waterloo and Hamilton. The cruise terminal at Canada Place is downtown, about 30 minutes from the airport.

Returning Home

You'll leave the ship in the morning on Saturday, June 26. Plan a flight home that leaves after midday to allow time for disembarking and getting to the airport.

Once we know everyone's flights and hotel plans, we can help arrange transfers to and from the ship.

Where to Stay

Pre-Cruise

Stay one night or more in downtown Vancouver, close to Canada Place and the waterfront. Be sure to tell your hotel your arrival time, especially with a late-night arrival.

Getting to the Port

From downtown hotels, Canada Place is a short taxi ride or walk. From the airport, the Canada Line SkyTrain runs to Waterfront Station, right beside the terminal.

Post-Cruise

Add a night or two to enjoy Vancouver: Stanley Park, Granville Island and Gastown are all close by.

Glacier Bay & Tracy Arm

Two of the most memorable days of the trip happen right from the ship. Tracy Arm is a narrow fjord with steep granite walls, waterfalls and floating ice. Glacier Bay National Park is a protected wilderness of tidewater glaciers, where you may hear the ice crack and see it fall into the sea.

Find a spot on deck or on your verandah, bring a warm jacket, and keep your camera ready.

Whales & Alaska's Capital

Juneau can only be reached by sea or air, and it's one of the best places in Alaska to see humpback whales in summer. Popular options include a whale-watching cruise, a visit to the Mendenhall Glacier, or the Mount Roberts Tramway for views over the city and channel.

White Pass Railway

Skagway was the gateway to the Klondike Gold Rush. The White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad climbs from the town into the mountains, past waterfalls, gorges and summer wildflowers, following the route the stampeders took.

Wildlife & Totems

Ketchikan sits at the edge of the Tongass rainforest. Stroll historic Creek Street, see totem poles and learn about Alaska Native culture, or head out to look for eagles, bears and whales. Flightseeing over Misty Fjords is a favourite.

Packing List

Clothing

Layers are key: t-shirts, a warm sweater or fleece, and a waterproof jacket. Add a hat, gloves and a scarf for glacier days. Evenings on board are relaxed, with an optional dressier night or two.

Footwear

Comfortable walking shoes that can handle rain, plus something for evenings on board.

Sun & Rain

A compact umbrella or rain hood, sunglasses and sunscreen. The sun reflects strongly off the water and ice.

Extras

Binoculars, a camera with extra batteries, and a refillable water bottle. Alaska uses the same plugs and voltage as Canada (Type A/B, 120V), so no adapter is needed.

Weather Tips

June in Alaska

June is one of the best months to visit, with long daylight hours, often 17 hours or more. Weather can change quickly, and rain is common, especially in Ketchikan.

Temperatures

Daytime highs are usually around 13 to 18°C, with cooler mornings and evenings. Expect it to feel much colder near the glaciers.

Sun Protection

Even on cool or cloudy days, wear sunscreen and sunglasses. Light reflected off water and ice is strong.

Money & Currency

Local Currency

The Alaska ports use US dollars. Vancouver uses Canadian dollars.

Cards vs. Cash

Credit cards are widely accepted in port. Bring a small amount of US cash for tips and small purchases. A card with no foreign transaction fees can save you money.

Onboard Spending

Purchases on board are charged to your shipboard account and settled at the end of the voyage.

Documents

Passport

This cruise visits ports in the United States, so bring a valid passport. We recommend it be valid until at least December 26, 2027, six months after you return.
