One way from Vilshofen, Germany to Budapest, Hungary aboard the AmaMagna, July 4 to 11, 2027.

Staterooms & Suites

The AmaMagna has 98 staterooms and suites in 8 categories across the Violin, Cello and Piano decks. At 72 feet wide, it's twice the width of traditional European river ships, so rooms are roomy. Most staterooms have AmaWaterways' twin balconies, and suites have private balconies.

Bedding

Choose two twin beds, or one large bed (larger than queen size), when you book.

Prices in Canadian dollars, per person based on double occupancy. Staterooms start at $5,258 CAD per person. Ask Dave or Cathie for pricing on each category and which staterooms are still available in the group.

Insider Tips

• Room to roam. At 72 feet, the AmaMagna is twice the width of traditional river ships, with 196 guests on board.
• Four included restaurants. The Main Restaurant, The Chef's Table tasting menu, family-style Jimmy's, and Al Fresco with panoramic river views. Reserve The Chef's Table early in the cruise.
• Sun Deck fun. Enjoy the pool and whirlpool, or a game on the full-size pickleball court.
• Zen Wellness Studio. Group classes with the Wellness Host, a juice bar and two massage rooms.
• Pick your pace. Most days offer gentle, regular and active excursion choices.
• Getting around. The elevator serves the Violin, Cello and Piano decks, but not the Sun Deck.

Flights

Getting to Vilshofen

Munich (MUC) is the closest major airport to Vilshofen an der Donau, roughly two hours away by road. Look for flights from Toronto (YYZ), or connections from Waterloo or Hamilton. If you start with a stay in Prague, fly into Prague (PRG) instead.

Returning Home

This is a one-way cruise, so book a multi-city ticket and fly home from Budapest (BUD). Choose a flight later in the day on Sunday, July 11, or stay on in Budapest for a few nights.

Once we know everyone's flights and hotel plans, we can help arrange transfers to and from the ship.

Where to Stay

Pre-Cruise

Plan at least one night near Munich before sailing, or spend a few nights in Prague first. Be sure to tell your hotel your arrival time, especially with an early-morning arrival.

Getting to the Port

More information coming soon. We can help arrange a transfer from your hotel to the ship in Vilshofen.

Post-Cruise

Budapest is a wonderful city to linger in. Add a night or two to see the thermal baths, the Parliament and the riverfront at night.

Melk and Spitz sit in Austria's Wachau Valley, known for its vineyards and riverside villages. Options include Melk Abbey, the Lipizzaner Training Center, a guided bike ride, and a Dürnstein walking tour or a farm-to-table tasting.

Bratislava, City of Kings

Slovakia's capital was once the coronation city of Hungarian kings. Walk its old Coronation City streets, or try the Tastes of Slovakia culinary experience.

Budapest, Buda & Pest

The cruise ends in Budapest with time to explore both sides of the river. Visit Buda's Castle District, Fisherman's Bastion and Matthias Church, and pause at the Shoes on the Danube Bank memorial.

Packing List

Clothing

Light, breathable layers for warm summer days, plus a sweater or light jacket for evenings on deck. River cruising is relaxed, so smart-casual clothing works for dinner. Pack a swimsuit for the Sun Deck pool, and something to cover your shoulders and knees for church and abbey visits.

Footwear

Comfortable, broken-in walking shoes are a must for cobblestone old towns. Bring sneakers if you plan to play pickleball or join a bike ride.

Sun & Rain

Sunglasses, a hat and sunscreen, plus a compact umbrella or rain jacket for summer showers.

Extras

A travel adapter for Type C and F plugs (230 volts) used in Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Hungary. A small day bag for excursions, and any medications in your carry-on.

Weather Tips

July on the Danube

July is high summer in central Europe, with long, sunny days. Afternoon thunderstorms can pop up, so keep a light rain layer handy.

Temperatures

Daytime highs are usually in the mid to high 20s °C, and Budapest can reach 30 °C or more. Evenings cool to the mid-teens.

Sun Protection

Wear sunscreen and a hat on excursions and on the Sun Deck, and use your refillable water bottle to stay hydrated.

Money & Currency

Local Currency

Germany, Austria and Slovakia use the euro (€). Hungary uses the Hungarian forint (HUF), though some places in Budapest accept euros.

Cards vs. Cash

Credit and debit cards are widely accepted, and tap payments are common. Carry a little cash in euros and forints for small shops, markets and tips. Let your bank know your travel dates before you go.

Onboard Spending

Purchases on board are charged to your shipboard account and settled at the end of the voyage.

Documents

Passport

Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Hungary are all in Europe's Schengen Area. Your Canadian passport should be valid until at least October 11, 2027, three months after you leave, and we recommend it be valid until January 11, 2028. It must also have been issued within the last 10 years.

Entry Requirements

The European Union is introducing new entry rules for Canadians, including the ETIAS travel authorization. Check the latest rules before you travel at travel.gc.ca and joinsherpa.com.
